Recognising Exceptional Women Entrepreneurs

RICHA KAR

The Best Vendor Inspired by - Richa Kar

She has changed forever the way Indian women buy innerwear

Meet Richa Kar, the founder of Zivame, who removed sleaze from lingerie and added a fashion element to it. The 35-year-old always found herself inclined ...

Richa has always been more interested in the business side of things, and the booming success of her internet firm is proof of that. Kar realised she wanted to be at the helm of a firm as soon as she graduated from BITS Pilani in 2002. That's why, in 2005, she enrolled at NMIMS for an MBA. The placement round saw the young management graduate posted at retail chain Spencer’s in Kolkata, and two years later, she joined German multinational SAP as a consultant. As she tracked the online sales of one of her clients, Limited Brands, Kar came across Victoria's Secret. “It was around March when I realised that there is high surge in orders during the Valentine’s Day sales period. Almost a quarter of the lingerie maker’s sales were generated online,” she says. This is when the idea "Zivame" came about.

Her success didn’t happen overnight. A lot of hard work and effort was put into building her own brand. She faced several hardships and failures as well throughout her journey. She quotes that,

“If you are strong, focused and passionate about what you want to do, everything falls in place”.

This was her life motto and this has aided her significantly in paving her path towards success.
